5 Things to Know Before Your Sydney Newborn Photoshoot

Preparing for your newborn photoshoot? It can feel like just one more thing on a very long to-do list—but the good news is that it doesn’t have to be stressful. With a little planning and the right photographer, it can be a peaceful, even joyful experience. Here are five things every parent should know:

1.    Timing is key. The best time for newborn photography is within the first 14 days of life. During this period, babies are usually sleepy, curled up, and more tolerant of being gently posed. If your baby arrives early or late, don’t worry—your photographer will adjust accordingly.

2.    In-home sessions are best. Babies (and parents) are more relaxed in their own environment. There’s no need to pack up and leave the house when your photographer comes to you. A familiar setting also adds an authentic, personal touch to your images.

3.    A good photographer brings everything. From wraps and bonnets to lighting and experience, I arrive with a full kit to make sure your baby is warm, comfortable, and beautifully styled. You don’t need to buy anything in advance. I also bring backup options to suit different lighting or baby moods—because flexibility is key.

4.    Don’t worry about cleaning. I work in just one or two light-filled areas of your home. I’ll move things around as needed. My goal is to capture connection, not perfection. Your house doesn’t need to be spotless. Lived-in is beautiful—and often, those quiet moments on a messy bed or near a full laundry basket are the most honest and emotive.

5.    You’ll want to be in the photos too. Many parents initially say they don’t want to be photographed, but later regret it. These images are for your baby to look back on. They’ll want to see your love, your embrace, your face. Don’t wait for the perfect hair day—come as you are. That’s what they’ll cherish most.

If you’re considering a Sydney newborn photoshoot, trust that it can be a relaxed, meaningful experience. With a gentle, baby-led approach, I make sure your session feels like an extension of your family’s natural rhythm.
